I run developer community and platform work, and I am putting my own thread up for review. I have spent 9 years between infrastructure teams and the people who use them, so I know both the pager and the forum inbox.

Short version of what I do: I keep the internal platform usable for about 240 engineers, and I run the docs, office hours, and Discord that make it stick. Last year our platform adoption went from 41% to 78% of eligible teams. One small note, I still answer support threads myself on Fridays because that is where I learn what the docs missed.

Where I have worked

Developer Community Lead · Harborstack
2021 – present
  • Grew internal platform adoption from 41% to 78% across 34 product teams in 18 months.
  • Cut time-to-first-deploy for new hires from 6 days to under 2 by rewriting the onboarding path and 40 doc pages.
  • Run weekly office hours and a Discord of 1,900 members; median support reply time is 22 minutes.
Platform Engineer · Ngu Software
2018 – 2021
  • Built the self-service deploy tooling on Kubernetes that 12 teams shipped through, roughly 90 deploys a day.
  • Reduced on-call pages by 55% over a year by adding runbooks and 30 alerting rules that actually mapped to fixes.
Backend Engineer · Mekong Labs
2016 – 2018
  • Wrote Go services for a payments API handling 1.4M requests a day at 99.95% uptime.
  • Started the internal engineering wiki that later became the docs I still maintain habits from.

Jason reported to me for three years. The 41% to 78% adoption number is real, and I want to add that he did it without forcing anyone. He fixed the reasons teams avoided the platform, then let word spread.

What I would tell a hiring manager: he treats a confusing doc as a bug and a support thread as a signal. That is rarer than it sounds.

Worked the same on-call rotation with Jason. The 55% drop in pages was mostly his runbook work. Before that, half our alerts had no owner.

  • Calm during incidents, writes the postmortem the same night.
  • Knows Kubernetes well enough to say when not to use it.

Adding to Dat: I was on a team that shipped through Jason's deploy tooling. Going from a ticket-and-wait process to self-service took us from one release a week to daily. Small team, big difference.

I am a community member in the platform Discord, not a former coworker. Jason answered a Terraform state issue for me at 11pm once and then wrote a doc page so nobody would hit it again. The 22 minute reply time is real. I have lived it.
