Abstract

I am a seismologist with 12 years of observational experience across the Tohoku forearc network, working mainly on real-time phase picking and slow-slip detection. My picking algorithms run on 214 stations of the Kita-Sanriku array and cut median alert latency from 9.2 to 5.6 seconds. I still log felt reports in a paper notebook, out of habit rather than necessity.

  • Lead a 6-person analysis group producing the daily regional bulletin, about 1,400 located events per year at RMS residual under 0.28 s.
  • Rebuilt the automatic P-wave picker; false trigger rate dropped from 7.1% to 1.9% across 214 stations over 3 field seasons.
  • Coordinated the 2024 offshore OBS campaign, 18 instruments recovered, 17 with full 11-month records.
