§1Pattern notes

I design commercial knitwear and hand-knitting patterns, with 11 years in the Icelandic and Scandinavian wool trade. My published patterns have sold about 48,000 copies across 3 languages, and my machine-knit capsule lines run in editions of 200 to 600 pieces.

I work between hand-charted colourwork and Shima Seiki programming. I still swatch everything twice.

Tension is everything, in gauge and in production schedules.

Head of Pattern Design MC: Hraunló Knitworks CO 2021 – present
  1. k, p: lead a team of 5 designers; released 14 pattern collections, 122 patterns total, all on the stated dates.
  2. yo: moved 70% of the wool supply to 2 traceable Icelandic mills, cutting yarn cost per garment by 9%.
  3. ssk: rescued the AW23 lopapeysa run after a dye-lot failure; 380 of 400 sweaters shipped inside the original window.
Senior Knitwear Designer MC: Fjara Studio, Copenhagen CO 2017 – BO 2021
  1. p: designed 46 hand-knitting patterns; the Skerry Cardigan alone sold 6,200 copies across 3 language editions.
  2. k: programmed Shima Seiki SES machines for 8 capsule drops, edition sizes 200 to 600, reject rate held under 3%.
  3. BO: wrote the studio's 40-page grading and tech-pack handbook before leaving; it is still their house standard.
Junior Designer & Sample Knitter MC: Ullarhús Verksmiðja, Akureyri CO 2014 – BO 2017
  1. CO: graded 60+ factory patterns from single-size charts to 7-size ranges.
  2. k: knitted and blocked about 250 physical samples; measurement error logged at under 0.5 cm on finished pieces.
